I have been a customer for years, as well as having worked there from time to time. This is a family-owned business run solely by women. They have a solid respect for their respective specialties and believe in real workmanship--taking care to make each piece as strong as possible as well as aesthetically pleasing. I have never been disappointed in anything I have bought there, nor anything I have seen made there. A truly delightful shop
My first experience at Medlyn was a stained glass workshop, where I got to make my first stained glass ornament! Katherine was very patient and helpful, and really took the time to explain and demonstrate the steps clearly. I had such a great time that I've since gone back for other workshops and had a blast creating new mosaic projects. And of course, I fell in love with a one of a kind stained-glass kaleidoscope that I just had to have! The women in this shop are constantly making such beautiful and interesting things with glass and solder!
We came in with a specific design for a ring and also to fix a prong on an engagement ring. She used solder to fix the prong (which we didn't find out till a month later). Further, she did not follow the ring design we asked for, but rather did what she wanted. When we told her that we did not want it, she held the engagement ring as hostage until we paid her "labour" fee, even though we never got the ring. We have also heard other, similar complaints, that she does not design as the customer wants but will do her own idea, Poor Customer Service, Guidance, and frankly lies about the quality of her goods.I
